Exemption and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You are strongly encouraged to apply for exemption of a core course if you have already acquired all or most of the skills taught in that course.  Exemptions do not reduce the total number of units required to graduate but do allow you to take more elective coursework.  See the course instructor, who will assess your skills in the subject and determine whether you may exempt the course.

Additionally, students may be able to receive credit for up to 24 units (equivalent of two full-semester length classes) of graduate level classes taken at another university. The classes must be relevant to the degree program, a grade of at least a B must have been attained in the class, and the student must request RPL at the time of admission.  Contact the Program Director to discuss RPL options.
