Scholarships: Supporting Talent and Diversity
Scholarship support to study at the Carnegie Mellon Heinz School in Adelaide is making a world of difference – for both international and local students.
Four different scholarship offers are available to assist to students in the Masters of Science programs in either Information Technology or Public Policy and Management. The financial assistance ensures that a diverse range of talented eligible students are able to pursue their higher education goals and have access to the top ranking masters programs.
Carnegie Mellon-AusAID Scholarships
The Carnegie Mellon University-AusAID Scholarships are funded by the Australian Government’s AusAID program and support students from developing countries. Currently, there are 27 AusAID students, from 19 different countries including Tanzania, Bangladesh and the Philippines at the Heinz School Adelaide Campus.
At Carnegie Mellon Heinz-Australia, AusAID students are able to develop high-level skills and knowledge so they can contribute to the economic and social development of their home countries.
Current AusAID student 27 year old Ratha Chealy from Phnom Penh, Cambodia was working at the Royal University of Phnom Penh as a lecturer in Computer Science and Engineering when he saw the AusAID Scholarships advertised in the Cambodia Daily newspaper.
Ratha was aware of the highly regarded, internationally recognised degrees available from CMU and was looking for a suitable fulltime post graduate study program.
On completing his studies in Adelaide, Ratha will return to his home country to continue working as a lecturer. And, inspired by the MSIT course on Entrepreneurism, he looks forward to the day when he will be able to start up his own IT business venture.
South Australian Government scholarships
State public sector employees are eligible for SA Government scholarships that provide a high calibre leadership development opportunity. Government agencies recognise the value of the skills and knowledge gained by students, which contribute to building public sector intellectual capital and making a positive difference in South Australia.
Principal Policy Officer in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Ceilia Divakaran is on schedule to complete the Public Policy and Management program in December. She says the program’s intellectual rigour and the focus on high level strategic thinking, organisational management and quantitative analysis has sharpened her thinking and rounded out her senior management capabilities.
Looking to stretch her professional knowledge and experience Ceilia was keen to take on the highly ranked Carnegie Mellon Public Policy and Management program.
“The Government’s scholarship offer made it all possible and I’m most grateful for the opportunity. It’s been a very invigorating experience,” says Ceilia.
Telstra Scholarships and Carnegie Mellon University
The MSIT program is ideal for those already working in IT
As a leader in the field of technology in Australia, Telstra’s Media Communications Scholarship program reflects the company’s commitment to building Australia’s IT capability.
The Telstra Scholarships, valued at $90,000 each, support IT specialists keen to enhance their career prospects with a Master of Science in Information Technology from Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz School of Public Policy and Management’s campus in Adelaide
Adelaide IT specialist Megan Boundey is the first recipient of a Telstra Scholarship, enabling her to complete her post graduate studies on a full time basis within one year. This has led to the opportunity for her to travel to the Pittsburgh U.S. campus to complete a semester of study.
“Carnegie Mellon’s MSIT program is opening international doors I never knew existed whilst the Telstra Scholarship is enabling me to aim to be at the top of my profession. I’m also really excited about the opportunity to study in the US and look forward to working with my peers and faculty at the Pittsburgh campus.” says Megan.
Applications from IT professionals are now invited for courses starting in January 2009.
