Carnegie Mellon and my Journey

 Micheal Bumagat

Michael Bumagat was very clear about his intention to complete an Internship with an International Organisation such as the UN when he commenced his Masters of Public Policy and Management in January 2008. He is therefore excited to be now heading off to Geneva, Switzerland to work with the United Nations Economic Commission on Europe. He will be in the technical cooperation unit where one of his main tasks will be to assist in the preparation of the annual report of the ECE. He will also be undertaking research and analysis of the inputs of ECE’s sectoral divisions by working with regional advisers and other sub-regional organizations.

Michael was offered internships with the UN’s Headquarters in New York City, as well as with UNESCAP in Bangkok, however, Michael says that he chose to intern with UNECE in Geneva “as it will bring me closer to working with issues that are related to what I would like be doing in the future”.

Of his experience at Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz School in Adelaide, he says “Sapientia melior auro” which translates to knowledge is better than gold. My experience so far at Carnegie Mellon has been one that is both memorable and above all things, valuable. I can see very much that the Heinz School trains decision-makers for the policies and issues of the present and future, and I know that Carnegie Mellon will get me where I want to be professionally. “

Interns are available from September to January. Please contact Career Services on +61 8 8110 9922 or alisonh@andrew.cmu.edu if you are interested in employing an Intern. It is an opportunity to utilise the Heinz school’s approach of analytical, information based problem solving in your organisation.
