Student Life
Our students work very hard, so we make sure there's time for you to take a break. Presentations, networking events and social activities are all part of the graduate educational experience at Heinz College in Adelaide. Such events provide opportunities to network and make important personal and professional contacts.
Social Activities
On the last Friday of each month, Heinz holds a TGIF (Thank Goodness Its Friday!) function for all students. Recent events have included a traditional 'Aussie BBQ' in our courtyard and a 'wine, cheese and discussion' evening.
There are also recreational activities and adventure trips for students to participate in. Recent trips included a day trip houseboat ride along Australia's Murray River, a winery tour of the McLaren Vale region, and a trip to Kangaroo Island, just off the coast of South Australia.
In addition to university-run events, there is a student social committee that organizes events and functions for students.
Lectures and Presentations
At Heinz College, we recognize that learning happens in many different settings so we invite speakers from all walks of life to address our students on issues of interest.
Convocation is a fortnightly forum open to all students to have an opportunity to discuss and learn about a variety of issues. Some sessions feature guest speakers who lead organizations, analyze and develop policy, and innovate in non-traditional ways. Other sessions may introduce you to faculty and their research or provide a chance to raise issues with senior administrators.
Examples of recent convocation speakers include the Monsignor David Cappo, Social Inclusion Advisor to the Premier, and the Honorable Jane Lomax-Smith, Minister for Education and Children's Services, South Australia.
Other events and functions include Systems Synthesis capstone project presentations, visiting lecturers and development workshops offered by our Career Services Adviser.
Student Representatives
The Student body each year elects representatives who meet on a regular basis with the University's senior administrators. This is a forum in which student issues can be raised and that seeks to improve the quality of life and education for the university's graduate students.
